privacy
disco hunter helps you hunt, remember, and revisit records. this page explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. plain language, no legalese.
disco hunter is an independent project operated under the name discohunter. if you have questions about this policy or your data, reach out at hunt@discohunter.com or through the support page.
your email and a unique id from your sign-in provider (google or apple). we do not see or store your password.
the albums in your wantlist and collection, plus any notes, conditions, formats, or tags you add.
manual entries about where and when you saw a record, what condition it was in, and any notes you wrote.
if you choose to make a shelf public, your handle and display name are stored alongside it.
standard server logs (ip address, browser type, request timestamps) kept briefly for security and debugging.
to run the service. account data lets you log back in. records and sightings are the product. logs help us keep the service working and catch abuse.
we do not sell your data. we do not use it for ads. we do not build advertising profiles.
disco hunter uses google and apple sign-in.
when you sign in, the provider tells us your email and a user id so we can recognize you next time. we never see your password.
google and apple have their own privacy policies that govern what they share with us during sign-in.
if you use the nearby-stores feature, you can either allow location access in your browser, or type a city or postal code manually.
location is used at the moment of the search to find shops near you. we do not store your location history, track you in the background, or share location with third parties for advertising.
disco hunter relies on a few outside services to work. here is what each one sees:
stores your account and records on us-based servers.
handle authentication. they share your email and a user id with us when you log in.
we send album titles and artist names to look up release details. no account data is sent.
we use their public catalogs to find album links. these queries are made with our app credentials, not yours. spotify and apple do not receive your account data.
nearby-store lookup may use google maps, nominatim, or overpass depending on the request. they receive the location or postal code you provided for that search.
buttons that link to bandcamp, amazon, spotify, or apple music send you to those sites. once you click, their privacy policies apply.
we may use lightweight analytics or error-tracking tools to understand how the app is used and to fix bugs. when we add them, this page will list each one and what it collects.
we do not use ad-tracking pixels or third-party behavioral advertising.
we use cookies and browser storage for two things: keeping you signed in, and remembering your settings (like dark mode or your preferred shelf view).
no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
some amazon links may include an affiliate tag. if you buy something after clicking, we may earn a small commission at no cost to you.
disco hunter does not show amazon price tracking or marketplace comparison tables in the app.
account, records, and sightings: kept while your account is active.
if you delete your account, we remove your records, sightings, and shelf settings. limited backups may persist for up to 30 days before being overwritten.
server logs: kept for up to 30 days, then deleted.
no matter where you live, you can:
- access a copy of your data
- correct anything that is wrong
- export your wantlist, collection, and sightings
- delete your account and the data tied to it
depending on your region (eu, uk, california, canada, and others), you may have additional rights such as objecting to certain processing or filing a complaint with a data protection authority.
to exercise any of these, email hunt@discohunter.com or use the support page. we respond within 30 days.
disco hunter is hosted in the united states. if you use the app from outside the us, your data is transferred to and stored in the us. by using disco hunter, you understand that us privacy laws may differ from those in your country.
disco hunter is not intended for children under 13. we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. if you believe a child has signed up, contact us and we will delete the account.
we use industry-standard practices to protect your data: encrypted connections (https), secure password handling via google and apple, and limited internal access. no system is perfect, but we take this seriously.
if we change this policy in a meaningful way, we will update the date at the top and let you know in the app or by email before the change takes effect.
